How do I join an online server?

Open Find Servers from the main menu. The Internet tab lists thousands of active servers. Double-click one to join. You can also press ~ to open the console and type connect IP:PORT.

Is the download safe? My antivirus shows a warning.

The installer is 100% clean and checked before every release. Some antivirus programs flag old game engines as "unknown software" simply because the file is not digitally signed by a major vendor. This is a false positive – you can safely add the game folder to your exclusions list.

How do I change my nickname and language?

Go to Options → Multiplayer and type a new name in the Player name field. Game language can be switched from the same Options menu or by adding -language english to the shortcut launch parameters.

The game is laggy or the FPS is low. What can I do?

Set the video renderer to OpenGL in Options → Video, use your monitor's native resolution and type fps_max 100 in the console. On laptops, make sure the game runs on the dedicated GPU rather than integrated graphics.

Can I add custom maps, skins and mods?

Yes. Copy .bsp map files into cstrike/maps, and models/sounds into cstrike/models and cstrike/sound. Most community maps and skins from the last 20 years are fully compatible with this build.
